Questions to Ask a Hijab Manufacturer Before Paying Deposit
Twenty questions to ask a hijab manufacturer before paying a deposit — identity, samples, fabric, customization, payment, quality and shipping — from a manufacturer that answers all of them.
Paying a deposit to a hijab manufacturer you have only chatted with on WhatsApp is the scariest moment of starting a modest-wear brand. Send money to the wrong people and you lose everything; ask too few questions and you spend months fixing bad production.
Good manufacturers know this — and welcome hard questions. Here are the 20 questions every private label hijab buyer should ask before any money changes hands. Ask us these; we answer all of them, and we respect buyers who ask.
About identity (is this a real factory?)
1. Can we do a live video call walking through your workshop? A real factory says yes within 24 hours.
2. What is your registered company name and business license number? You should be able to verify it in China's public records.
3. Do payments go to a company bank account — never a personal one? No exceptions. If someone asks for a personal account, walk away.
4. Which hijab styles have you produced for other brands? A real factory shows real hijab products — jersey, modal, chiffon, instant styles — not only logos.
About hijab samples (can I judge quality before committing?)
5. What does a hijab sample cost, and is it deducted from the bulk order? (Ours: US$50 per hijab sample, refunded in full when you place the formal order.)
6. How long does hijab sampling take, and what does it depend on? (Ours depends on the fabric, the style and the customization level — we confirm the schedule with your quote.)
7. Can you develop my hijab design from sketches or reference photos? A real custom manufacturer works from your references with available fabrics.
8. How do you confirm size, shape, finishing and edge treatment before bulk? Every sample should be checked for dimensions, shape and wearing comfort before you approve it.
About fabric and customization (the core of a hijab product)
9. Which hijab fabrics can you offer, and what are their weights, stretch and drape? Ask how jersey, modal and chiffon each wear in daily use.
10. Can I customize colors, dimensions, labels and packaging — and to what level? This decides how much of a private label you actually get.
11. What fabrics are in stock now, and what does custom dyeing require? In-stock fabric is the fastest, lowest-minimum path; ask what is currently available.
About money (where does my deposit go?)
12. What are your payment terms? (Ours: T/T — 30% deposit, 70% balance before shipment. Sample fee up front.)
13. What exactly does the deposit cover? You deserve a breakdown: fabric, cutting, sewing, finishing.
14. Are there fees that appear later? There shouldn't be. Ask directly.
About production and quality (what if it goes wrong?)
15. Who checks quality, and at which stages? Ask about inline inspection and final inspection.
16. Will you send me photos of the bulk production before shipping? (We do — before any shipment leaves.)
17. What happens if the bulk hijabs don't match the approved sample? A confident factory has a written answer — ask for it before you order.
18. How do you keep fabric weight and hand feel consistent between the sample and bulk? A hijab that feels different from the sample generates returns.
About quantities, timing and shipping (how does it reach me?)
19. What is your MOQ for custom hijab styles, colors and packaging? (It depends on fabric availability and customization level — send your plan and we confirm what is realistic within a day.)
20. Which shipping terms do you offer, and can you estimate freight for my quantity and country before I pay? (EXW, FOB and DDP — with DDP the courier cost and estimated duties are quoted together. A real quote includes shipping, not just goods.)
Red flags: when NOT to pay
- Refuses a video call or only sends stock photos
- Prices far below every other quote you received
- Pushes you to pay quickly "to lock the price"
- Personal bank account, or a different company name than the contract
- Cannot explain hijab fabric weight, composition or MOQ logic
