A project qualification guide for intimate apparel and seamless development: product, material, stretch, construction, fit, lining, trims, sampling, testing, and QC.
Introduction
Intimate apparel and seamless projects have specific development requirements. This guide helps brands qualify a project before committing, so both the buyer and the manufacturer agree on what is being made and whether it fits the factory's capability.
Define the Intended Product
Start with the garment type and end use — bra, underwear, shapewear, or a seamless style — because the construction, fit, and testing requirements differ for each.
Material
Confirm the fabric composition and any lining, including the fiber blend and whether stretch is required. Material choice drives fit, recovery, and how the garment behaves in wear.
Stretch and Recovery
Intimate and seamless garments depend on stretch and recovery. Specify the expected recovery after wear and washing, and confirm how it will be checked on the sample.
Construction
Confirm seams, elastics, bonding, or any construction method specific to the style. Seam placement and finish affect both comfort and durability.
Fit and Sizing
Define the size range and fit expectations. Intimate apparel fit is graded tightly, so confirm the size chart and how fit will be approved on a body or form.
Lining
For styles that need a lining, confirm the lining composition, how it is attached, and how it behaves alongside the shell fabric.
Trims
Confirm hooks, straps, rings, elastics, and any other trims, including color and finish.
Sampling
Confirm the sampling timeline and revision rounds. Intimate apparel may need more than one fit revision before the sample is approved.
Testing
Agree which tests apply — such as stretch recovery, colorfastness, or shrinkage — and the method and conditions, rather than assuming a standard.
Quality Control
Confirm how in-line and final inspection will be carried out against the approved sample, and what happens if a batch fails acceptance.
Buyer Inputs
Prepare the inputs the factory needs: reference image or tech pack, size chart, fabric and lining composition, colors, trims, labels, packaging, target quantity, and launch date.
Project Suitability
A project is suitable when the intended product matches the factory's current manufacturing capability. If the style needs construction or materials outside that capability, confirm this before sampling rather than discovering it during development.
